The roots of North America Beverages (NAB), which includes all of our beverage businesses in the United States and Canada (North America), go back to 1898, when Caleb Bradham, an innovative entrepreneur from New Bern, North Carolina created Pepsi-Cola, offered it to his pharmacy customers, and started a movement that would quench consumers’ thirst for generations to come.
Today, NAB offers consumers top-selling beverages choices for every lifestyle and occasion, including carbonated soft drinks, sparkling and premium bottled waters, sports nutrition, juices and juice drinks, probiotic drinks, ready-to-drink teas and coffee, and energy drinks.
Through our own product innovations, acquisitions and strategic alliances, we’ve introduced brands to meet the evolving tastes and expectations of our consumers.

In 1932, C.E. Doolin entered a small San Antonio cafe and purchased a bag of corn chips. Mr. Doolin learned the corn chips manufacturer was eager to sell his small business, so Mr. Doolin purchased the recipe, began making Fritos corn chips in his mother's kitchen and sold them from his Model T Ford.
That same year, Herman W. Lay began his own potato chip business in Nashville by delivering snack foods. Not long after, Mr. Lay purchased the manufacturer, and formed the H.W. Lay & Company. The company became one of the largest snack food companies in the Southeast. In 1961, it merged with the Frito Company, becoming Frito-Lay, Inc.
Today, Frito-Lay North America (FLNA) makes some of the most popular and high-quality snacks in the United States and Canada including Lay’s and Ruffles potato chips, Doritos tortilla chips, Cheetos cheese-flavored snacks, Tostitos tortilla chips and branded dips, Santitas tortilla chips, Sun Chips multigrain chips and Fritos corn chips. In addition, FLNA, through a joint venture with Strauss Group makes, markets, sells and distributes Sabra refrigerated dips and spreads.
The Quaker Oats Company was officially formed in 1901 when several American grain pioneers came together to incorporate the now familiar name. These four pioneers were Ferdinand Schumacher, John Stuart, George Douglas and Henry Parsons Crowell. Dedicated to bringing hearty oats through quality breakfasts, snacks and recipe ideas, Quaker has remained a leading brand in oats.
The Quaker Oats Company merged with PepsiCo in 2001. Today, Quaker offers numerous products and choices including hot cereals, cold cereals, snack bars, rice snacks, Real Medleys and more.
In addition to Quaker’s brands, our Quaker Foods North America division also makes, markets and sells cereals, rice, pasta, dairy and other branded products, such as Aunt Jemima mixes and syrups, Cap’n Crunch cereal, Life cereal and Rice-A-Roni side dishes.

Europe Sub-Saharan Africa (ESSA) includes all of our beverage, food and snack businesses in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. Either independently or in conjunction with third parties, ESSA makes, markets, sells and distributes a number of leading snack food brands including Lay’s, Walkers, Doritos, Cheetos and Ruffles, and many Quaker-branded cereals and snacks, as well as beverage concentrates, fountain syrups and finished goods under various beverage brands including Pepsi, Pepsi Max, 7UP, Diet Pepsi and Tropicana.
These branded products are sold to authorized bottlers, independent distributors and retailers. In certain markets, Europe operates its own bottling plants and distribution facilities. ESSA also makes, markets and sells ready-to-drink tea products through an international joint venture with Unilever (under the Lipton brand name). In addition, ESSA makes, markets, sells and distributes a number of leading dairy products including Domik v Derevne, Chudo and Agusha.
Also in 2010, PepsiCo announced significant investments at its Polish plants, Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Tomaszow Mazowiecki, as well as the creation of new jobs at the Tomaszow plant.
Asia, Middle East and North Africa (AMENA) includes all of our beverage, food and snack businesses in Asia, Middle East and North Africa. Either independently or in conjunction with third parties, makes, markets, sells and distributes a number of leading brands including Lay’s, Kurkure, Chipsy, Doritos, Cheetos and Smith’s, many Quaker-branded cereals and snacks, beverage concentrates, fountain syrups and finished goods under various beverage brands including Pepsi, Mirinda, 7UP, Mountain Dew, Aquafina and Tropicana.
These branded products are sold to authorized bottlers, independent distributors and retailers. In certain markets, AMENA operates its own bottling plants and distribution facilities. AMENA also, either independently or in conjunction with third parties, makes, markets and sells ready-to-drink tea products through an international joint venture with Unilever (under the Lipton brand name) and licenses the Tropicana brand for use in China on co-branded juice products to a strategic alliance with Tingyi (Cayman Islands) Holding Corp. (Tingyi).
